Dr. Partha Dutt obtained his MBBS degree in 1984. He then completed an internship in Psychiatry from Burdwan Medical College, and an internship in Neurology at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. He passed the MD (Psychiatry) postgraduate degree examination from Kolkata in 1989.
Dr. Partha Dutt commenced private practice in 1990. Initially he worked as an associate of Prof. Anil Kumar Dutt. Subsequently he served as Consultant Psychiatrist at several hospitals in Kolkata, including AMRI Hospital, Sree Bisuddhananda Saraswati Hospital, and Arabinda Seba Kendra. He also has been associated with the Ramakrishna Mission Seba Pratisthan (RKMS/Sishumangal Hospital) and Kothari Medical Centre (Alipore, Kolkata), and continues as Visiting/Consultant Psychiatrist at these institutions till date. In addition, Dr. Dutt is an Assistant Professor at VIMS Kolkata, where he has taught for the last 17+ years.
Dr. Partha Dutt has many national and international publications to his name. He regularly attends conferences and seminars in India as well as other countries, and often delivers lectures at these events. He is a member and fellow of several organisations, such as the Indian Psychiatric Society, Indian Association of Private Psychiatry, Indian Association for Social Psychiatry, Indian Medical Association and Kolkata Psychiatry Club.

Dr. Partha Dutt's areas of special interest include the following:
- Adult Psychiatry – schizophrenia, depression, drug addiction (patients are treated with medication along with psychotherapy).
- Anxiety Disorder – patients are preferably treated without medication; instead, behavioural therapy and relaxation therapy are used. Dr. Dutt is among the pioneers in the use of biofeedback-aided relaxation therapy in West Bengal.
- Psychosexual Disorder – treatment is provided via marital counselling and sex therapy, sometimes along with medicines.
- OCD – treatment consists of behavioural therapy along with medicines.
At Dr. Partha Dutt's clinic most of the psychiatry tests including neurobiological and IQ testing are done by psychologist Mrs. Nilanjana Mukherjee. All types of psychotherapy and counselling for adults, adolescents and children are available at the clinic. ECT (electric shock therapy) is never used on any patient at this clinic.
